Thought this may help. It did for me~ but you don't need a stir plate, you can just pick it up every so often and give it a swirl .

I think they're best in the first 24-48 hours. You can string them along for awhile, keep them cooler and then add more malt the day before you brew just to wake them up.

I just boil a little extract and water, let it get to room temp, add it to a growler or Erlenmeyer flask with an airlock and let it go. If its older, you can add nutrient. If you have a stirplate, they're great, if not, give it a swirl every once in awhile.
