I just do the starter wort in a pot on the stove.

Sanitize the pot (which is actually unnecessary because I'll be boiling liquid in it in a second, but I'm a bit paranoid)
Add water & bring to boil
Add Dry Malt Extract
Bring back to boil and boil for 20 mins
Sanitize lid
Cool wort by placing the pot in sink of ice water
Pour wort through sanitized funnel in to growler
Pour liquid yeast through funnel
Cover with sanitized aluminum foil

I'm a bit afraid of using Erlenmeyers because I'm likely to break 'em. Growlers are a little more sturdy so I like usin' them.

So Tyler,,I am just going to start saving and yeast and doing yeast starters....but with your method how do you heat the starter wort up...i think my method is going to be using the erlanmeyer flask and heating the wort and flask directly on the burner..then letting cool and pitch the yeast in and cover and wait...My last brew i used 2 packs of liquid and this will save some coin..
How were you going to use the growler?? Jeff

It just is amazing how all these grains taste..today when bagging the Honey Malt I let several customers taste them..they were amazed at the taste of this grain..How do they get that exact honey flavor by roasting?? Looks like the brewing class will be attended well..The temp signs in front of my shop really work,, I have had at least 8-10 brewers stop in and are gald to see supplies that i have never seen before..I hope some of the club can attend the learning session..Jeff

I'm going to be pickin' up a growler or two for propagating yeast. They make great substitutes for erlenmeyer flasks.
