Nope, this will be the first one in the barrel. The maker said that the first ones will be pretty potent (from the non-boil treated barrel), so it's best to taste often and pull it as soon as your at desired oaking levels. Worst case scenario, the oak flavor mellows with age if I don't catch it at the optimal time.

Yeah, I filled her up pretty good (its a 6.5gal carboy) . I wanted to make sure I had enough brew to fill the oak barrel and do some non-oak barrel bottle conditioning, for comparison purposes of coarse.

Sounds like a little more headspace is needed in that fermentation vessel...

Just changed out the airlock for the 3rd time. I'm just going to have to stay on top of this one so it doesnt clog.

Actually, the last time I had to clean the ceiling was from a fermenter that had a blow off tube. Either way, it seems I'm always cleaning up something, lol. At least I know its fermenting, heh.
