Usually you do not need to double the hops when doubling the recipe from 5 to 10 gallons, because of utilization rates. Doubling the hops will probably put you over your target IBUs.

to my boil hops, it adds half an oz. but no addition to my dry hops. will know soon if it turned out Smile

I've never tried to double anything in BeerSmith. I'll have to try it when I get home.

I brewed the black veil ale on sunday and didnt notice that after i scaled the recipe to 10 gallons it didnt just make the hops times 2, it scaled them much more...is this normal for beer smith? heres what i ended up with...and after tasting the wort from the hydrometer tube it seemed pretty hoppy..so maybe i will have an american IPA instead..i started with a recipe of Freds and adjusted to my thoughts...And after reading the article in Brew You Own on irish moss and whirlfoc i did not use it this time...seems not needed..

10/30/2010 Clean and prepare equipment.

Mash In: Add 7.07 gal of water at 120F for dough in and raise temp to 150..
75 min - Hold mash at 150.0 F for 75 min
add 1 galon water and raise temp to 168 for mash out... - Hold mash at 168.0 F for 10 min
-- Sparge with 4.62 gal of 168.0 F water.
-- Add water to achieve boil volume of 13.00 gal
-- Estimated Pre-boil Gravity is: 1.049 SG with all grains/extracts added
